I just wanted to thank you for your responses and let you know that it has helped. Yes my life is still progressing, and I have had to evaluate the things happening in my life that are causing me much grief, Thank you Alan, Bravone & Zinj. Yet it has only been a week but it has been a long week, I have come to conclusion that my problems will be problems as long as I focus on them that way. My thoughts have been lightened but will never disappear. I am ok with that, My main question is will I ever look at a man and not find him attractive, or if I happen to see a man with his shirt off will I be able to shrug it off and not dwell on it. What are some ways to break that chain of thinking?
Ways to break that chain of thinking? Well, what I'm going to say may shock you but it's worked for me.
ReplyDeleteDon't try. Stop thinking that just because you admire the beauty of another guy with his shirt off, you have sinned. God's creations are beautiful and you just happen to have a particular affinity (as Abe says) for that subset. Now, if every time you see a shirtless guy you start salivating like Pavlov's dogs and lose all control over lustful thoughts, then yeah, you probably have some issues you need to get help with.
But personally, I don't see anything wrong or sinful with saying "Hey, he's cute" or "Hey, nice abs." We are built to be attracted to beauty, don't fight it, you won't win. My opinion is that it's not sinful, that's the way God made us all, gay or straight. What matters is whether you let your attractions (whatever they are) run to unhealthy conclusions.
So I think the answers to your questions are no, you will never be able to stop looking at handsome men without finding them attractive, and no, you will probably never be able to see a shirtless guy and not pause to admire. And that's okay.
